Personal Operating System
Your Personal Operating System is what makes you tick. It includes your internal responses and external reactions to the world around you.
There are many ways you can learn about your own personal operating system. Assessment tools, therapist, workshops, coaches, and reflections from close family and friends are a few external input examples, which are all super helpful. And you also want to pay attention to what is real for you in the moment.
Here is one example of how to work with your Personal Operating System. Observe how you feel when you have an experience and notice how you react to that experience. Make note of it if you’d like.
If you desire to change your reaction, make note of what you would like to do differently next time. Then, when the opportunity presents itself (and it will), observe your feelings again and make a conscious decision to try the alternate reaction. If that still doesn’t feel right, try again next time. I promise, you’ll have plenty of other chances.
The trick is learning how to slow the process down.
Recognize the experience is happening, observe your feelings and consciously choose your reaction.
Practice makes perfect!
